Looking to liven up a summer wardrobe without spending a fortune? Consider investing in a couple accessories to help you get started.

A floppy hat is a must. Purchased from Charming Charlie, this woven hat is perfect for protecting your face and décolletage from the sun. I love it!

I also suggest downsizing your day bag to a smaller bag that’s big enough to safely store your cell, wallet and sunnies. There’s just no need to lug around a ton of stuff over the summer.

Other summer essentials include cork wedges, statement-making jewelry and a pair of mirrored sunnies (not pictured).

Happy Monday!

Romper: (c/o) TJ Maxx $14.99/Jacket: H&M $29.95/Sandals: Target $29.99/Clutch: (gift)/Earrings: Forever 21 $5.80

I love the ease of all-in-one dressing that a cute romper provides, but wearing one isn’t exactly the easiest thing to pull off.

Fear not, here’s how you can rock one:

Be sure to choose a romper that’s easy and breezy, and long enough to hide your cheeks. If you’re going for a classic look, wear one in a solid color. For a casual look, choose a print and break up the outfit with a belt or a jacket to prevent looking like you’re wearing a onesie and to appear more put together.

Since it’s officially sandal weather, I like to wear a wedge or one with a heel to add height and show off my pedi. But if that’s not you’re thing, wear a pair of statement flats like gladiators or neon sandals – just don’t wear flip-flops.

To pull it all together, throw on a couple accessories and toss on oversized shades, and you’ve got a look that will carry you through the rest of the summer.

Typically made with lightweight fabrics, pajama pants are meant to be breezy and fun, and easy to wear on sticky summer nights. In my opinion, this style works best when the pants are printed and have an elastic waistband with an easy fit.

Some prefer to wear the wide-legged palazzo style (for a casual look) while others prefer a more tapered look (chic). Either way, pair these pants with a waist-clinching top or tuck in your blouse for a long, lean look. You can also wear them with a basic tee that doesn’t compete – like a simple white tank top.

Wear a feminine, ankle-strap sandal (my ultimate go-to shoe) and finish it off with some serious jewelry and a bright, structured bag to add a touch of sophistication.

And, voila! You’ve officially made PJs chic and not to mention, a downright comfortable way to rock a stylish outfit all day.

Blazer: H&M $34.95/Top: TJ Maxx $39.99 (c/o)/Shorts: TJ Maxx $29.99 (c/o)/Purse: TJ Maxx $29.99 (c/o)/Heels: Nine West $79/Necklace: TJ Maxx $29.99 (c/o)/Earrings: Charming Charlie $15

These fun shorts are cut from a washed-out fabric that have a bit of stretch so they are super comfy and easy to wear. They sit high on the waist and softly flare out for a loose fit through the legs. I wore them with a lightweight knit top and sleek blazer, but you can wear them with pretty much anything – like a linen blouse and espadrilles for a casual look.

Worried you’re not tall enough or have long enough legs to pull it off? Don’t… because anyone can look amazing in shorts as long as it’s pulled together nicely.

Be sure to tone down the trend during the day and put your legs on display at night. Otherwise you’ll look like you’re trying too hard. If you’re looking to steer attention away from your thighs, tuck in a printed top into a pair of simple, unrolled shorts for a streamline look. If you want to bare it all, wear a heel or a wedge to elongate your legs and to make you appear slimmer. Try throwing in some funky accessories to oomph up your outfit, but remember to keep everything complimentary (gold with gold, silver with silver, etc.) so it looks chic.

The great thing about shorts are they can be dressed up or down, so you’ll get a lot of mileage out of them. And really – at the end of the day – as long as you feel comfy and confident in them, you’ll look amazing.

I’m a firm believer that what you wear is a true reflection of who you are or how you’re feeling at that moment. Think about it, when you choose bright colors you’re most likely feeling happy and if you’re wearing black in the dead heat of the summer, you’re probably feeling conservative and/or somewhat out of your mind.

But trust me and take a color cue on this one, wearing bright colors can be liberating – especially if you’ve been hiding under the shadows of a muted wardrobe. And who knows? It may lift your spirits if you’re feeling down, give you a dash of confidence or convey a different (very chic, if I say so myself) message.

To pull off a colorful look, start with one basic piece – like a silk top, a pencil skirt or a blazer – and build from there. Add in a solid color and keep the accessories in the same story. What makes this work is the way you combine the colors so don’t go too crazy unless it all jives together.

And if you’re still unsure of this trend, wear one bright piece and keep the rest neutral.

Happy Wednesday!

Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven’t posted much on the blog lately. Last week was busy with traveling but so worth it. I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to style for such an amazing brand and to experience it with one of my best friends and my photographer. I’ll never forget it and can’t wait to share it with everyone on the blog! So stay tuned – come July 1, it goes live.

Today’s post is causal, a tad beach-ish (as evident with my sun-burned legs!) and has a touch of a bohemian vibe to it. My floral shorts were purchased from Marshalls for next to nothing and teamed with a breezy, peasant top from Forever 21 to give a relaxed look. I threw in a pop of color with bright pink earrings and kept the rest neutral to balance out the look. In sum, it’s cute, comfortable and easy.

Thanks for following!

Get into a playful spirit and show off those sun-kissed legs this summer with a pair of sophisticated shorts. I love this style because you can dress them up for a night out or go casual. Either way, sophisticated shorts will definitely make you feel a bit more refined and put together.

The best way to rock a pair is to keep it simple and wear a basic tee so you don’t distract from the shorts. To dress them up, toss on a lightweight blazer and pair of heels and to dress them down, transition into strappy flats, a linen top and an oversized tote. And for those feeling fashionably daring, opt for a top in a different print – like one with a floral pattern, one with polka dots or with a larger stripe – to mix it up.

On another note, I’m literally counting down the days until Thursday aka my AHH-mazing trip thanks to TJ Maxx! They’re sending me to NYC for three days to go shopping and to shoot looks for a very special surpise (I’ll reveal more in July). I’ll be sure to document my entire experience and share it, however you’ll get the full recap on TJ Maxx’s Tumblr page, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook pages – so please be sure to follow them!

Make it a good week!

If you’re a girl, there’s no doubt that dresses are a staple in your wardrobe. All you have to do is zip them up and go – dress them up or tone them down. So easy! But no matter where fashion takes you, there’s one style you can’t live without – a classic dress – because it’s enduring, instantly sophisticated and simple, and can add a hint of mystery and sexiness to your look. Plus it’s important to have just in case you ever get called upon to meet the president or for a royal portrait… you never know.

Sometimes a classic dress can look overdone on a younger woman, so it’s important to maintain your personality in order to successfully pull it off hence, the bright jewelry and sky-high sandals. The shyer among us may prefer a statement ring or colorful clutch instead… either way you swing, I guarantee you’ll wear a dress like this for years to come so invest in one this summer.

Stay tuned – next week I’m traveling to NYC to shoot with TJ Maxx and can’t wait! I’ll share more in July! Happy Thursday…

Top: Marshalls $12.99 (c/o)/Pants: Nordstrom $58/Sandals: Steve Madden (old)/Clutch: Charming Charlie (old)/Earrings: Forever 21 $5.80

Since I’m digging bold prints this season, I couldn’t resist when I spotted these trendy pants – adorned with a modern graphic print, which surprisingly ended up being very flattering when I tried them on. Needless to say, they were purchased in .2 seconds.

These trousers are great because they are tailored with a slightly higher waistline and have a relaxed fit through the thigh – making them super comfortable and perfect for transitioning from a long day at work to happy hour. Not to mention the lightweight feel of the fabric, which keeps you cool when walking to lunch and warm enough inside the office or at a restaurant. Pulling it together is easy too – just select a top that’s simple as well as accessories that won’t compete against the bold print.

Whether you choose to wear an allover graphic print pant or top this summer, you’re guaranteed to exude style and confidence, and show off your bold side. Oh and speaking of summer, I’ll be featuring a boat load of fabulous finds from TJ Maxx and CAN’T WAIT to share them all in July. Stay tuned for more exciting details…
